The Politics of Harry Potter

Everything from attorneys to Virginia Tech has become politicized in recent times. Strangely enough, Harry Potter hasn’t. It remains one of the few things not tainted by politics in pop culture.

Why is this?

By the way, the reason this post is so short is because I’m trying to reread all the Harry Potter books before midnight tomorrow. I haven’t gotten very far :-(

When I was reading book 6 (HP and the Half Blood Prince) in the first chapter the British PM was talking over the phone with the President of the US and after the call refered to him as an idiot. I thought Jo Rowling was making a political statement. Now I understand that the events of the HP story supposedly took place in the 1990s, but I think she was poking fun at Bush when she wrote that.

Also the collusion between the Ministry of Magic and the Daily Prophet closely parallel the incestuous relationship between the Corporate MSM and the US Government.

You're probably right.

By the way, the government in the wizarding world of Harry Potter is, well, interesting. I don't think there are elections or a clear line of succession. It's just bizarre.
