Email to Cafferty File

The Cafferty File, part of The Situation Room on CNN, poses a question every hour The Situation Room is on. This is today's 5:00 question, and a response.
------------------------------------------------------------
How much do Russian President Vladimir Putin's comments about America's global role matter?

What he actually said isn't very important. It's what his comment says about American influence. Since the Iraq War, America's global influence has steadily decreased. Now even Russia's "president" is standing up to us. Look what the government has left the next generation...

The whole world is turning against us, except the leaders who are still hand in glove with Bush - even though their citizens denounce us and Bush's policies.

Jiuliani vs Paul. If Jiuliani had never heard the arguement put forth by Paul, and if Juliani had never considered that if we tried to destroy others then they might want to destroy us, then he has no understanding of human nature or of foreign policy. If he were mayor of Boston on 9/11 Americans would not even know this one-event candidate.

I wish the Iraqi populace would get as worked up over Al-Queda killing 1,000 civilians as they are over Blackwater killing a dozen. Maybe then we could get some cooperation regarding THEIR country's progress. Note to Al-Queda: stop dressing up as Iraqi policemen and start dressing like private American security to turn the country over to you!

Thanks for the comment Matt.

As I'm planning to write about today, the Iraqis and their government are just using this as an excuse to scale back the amount of American forces in Iraq.

Jeez Louweez I find it so difficult to get an email sent to Jack Cafferty, or anyone else at CNN. I guess
I am not that good on the computer yet. My comment is about Bill being on board with Hill when she is our first Woman President. Gawldang! how could she not use his political expertise in dealing with the outrageous position Bush has presented the world. Mr Bill had our country in good standing with the world at large, and can possibly regain much of America's respect from other countries, with his knowledge and charisma. A small sexual indesrection is nothing compared to the indecretions of Bush and Darth Cheney. You know the routine, Deficit vs Surplus, Integrity vs Stupidity, plus Bill actually knows the American language. as well as some other languages that Bush cannot even imagine!!

Thanks for the comment Mr. McAlister.

I agree with you 100% - Bill Clinton would be a huge asset if Hillary Clinton is elected.

It's too bad that the Russian President has more influence over our opinions than that of our own president.

Lets get down to business at tonight's debate. How are these candidates going to deal with our loosing our children, mothers and fathers and even grandparents in a war propagated on lies, deal with millions loosing their jobs and homes, fix the broken health care mess rendering millions into bankruptcy, sky rocketing college loans, Bush's privatizing all government services to benefit his rich buddies in the corporate world, protecting consumers and their children from substandard Chinese products which build the coffers of big corporations, improve our reputation throughout the world, save America and your rights under the Constitution.

Dear Jack,

“Before there is any serious consideration to a Mormon being elected president of the United States of America there should a major study of the impact of Mormonism in communities where it has a significant influence, like, Utah, Arizona, Idaho and certain parts of Wyoming and Texas. The first thing that will be discovered is, as Mitt Romney pointed out, there is no separation between Mormon Church and State – there is the local sheriff who is also in the hierarchy of the local LDS Church and conducts his law enforcement responsibilities accordingly – that’s how you end up with polygamy flourishing and creating a huge lawless segment of society which is a major blight in these Mormon influence communities. The second thing that will be discovered is that in these communities the LDS/Mormon segment of the population is closed and does not assimilate with the rest of the population – if you are a non Mormon and live in one of these predominately Mormon influenced communities you are simply oustersied and shunned. This goes way beyond “unfriendliness” and “cultural differences”. Recently, there was a Catholic priest from Ogden, Utah interviewed on EWTN about his conversion from Mormonism to Catholicism. Here you have a highly educated good Christian man who when confronted with the questions about the difficulty in living in a Mormon community as a non Mormon could not contain his frustration on how Catholic youth are treated by the Mormon establishment. The significant of this influences every aspect of life in these Mormon influenced communities – with serious economic, political and social restrictions that cause many non-Mormons to live as second class citizens.

A month ago I was thinking favorably about Barack Obama but within the last few weeks that has change dramatically. It is clear now that any scrutiny of the voting record, position on issues and past history of Barack Obama will be consider unfair and racial. Anything that former President Bill Clinton has said about Barack Obama had it been said about any other presidential candidate would have been consider part of the fair exchange of the political process. We now find that we can’t disagree on the war in Iraq because that is unpatriotic and now we can’t discuss the political positions of a black candidate for president because that considered racial. The fact is if the press and done its job and discussed vigorously going to war in Iraq instead of sitting around on their pompous asses we would have stood a better change of avoiding an unnecessary war. We have just witnessed one of the most failed presidencies in American history and the press is hard at it to establish a mood of hands off Barack Obama. It is the press who have the warped perception of racism.

I believe that Senator Hillary Clinton is racist. Because if she was not why does she keep throwing up the race card. I believe that she is jealouse of Senator Barack Obama. All these years her and President Bill Clinton have had the Black peoples support and love but from this day forward if she steals the elected presidency from Obama I will not vote in November. I also feel that it is a disgrace before God that any person is seeing these episodes and still supporting her. I am going to start praying and fasting that people can see her and Bill for who they really are.

I would like to appeal to my fellow Democratic voter to not lose sight of the forest because of the trees. The Presidential race is not (or at least should not be) about the personality or the speaking skills of either candidate. Nor is it about White, Black, Rich or Poor. The news media want you to think that way because it keeps the power in the hands of the rich and the fighting amoungst us...the working class and poor. Try to remember why we are Democrats! Try to remember why we like Hillary or Obama. I suggest it is because we care about people other than ourselves, because we care about the poor, the planet, our troops overseas fighting bravely for Lord only knows what and because we Love America and the place in the world that she has held and can one day regain with a Democratic President. I am pleading with you MY FELLOW DEMOCRATS ... don't fall for the divisional tricks that always make us loose. Unite behind Clinton or Orbama because they share our vision for a better stronger America. Let America be the Lady she once was and what she promises to once again be. The Bush Presidents' Hideous
Litany Of Protecting, Appeasing
And Negotiating With Terrorists

President Bush's speech to the Israeli parliament, in which he said it would be 'appeasement' to talk 'with terrorists and radicals' (<>http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/20/bush.iran/#cnnSTCVideo),
is both grotesquely and cynically hypocritical:

- Remember the famous photo of the Saddam-Rumsfeld handshake? President Bush's own Secretary of Defense previously met and talked with Saddam Hussein, who, if you believe Mr. Bush, was the Ultimate Terrorist, so evil Mr. Bush had to attack and occupy his country to prevent him from giving non-existent WMD to terrorists.
- President Bush's own father, George H.W. Bush personally met and talked with -- even cut a treasonous arms-for-hostage-release-delay deal with -- the radical terrorist regime then holding 52 Americans hostages
in Iran, in the famous 'October Surprise' now proven by released formerly classified documents (see <>www.ConsortiumNews.com and click on 'The October Surprise X-Files').

- President Bush's own grandfather, Prescott Bush, was a top functionary for some of Hitler's most powerful financial and industrial backers in the U.S. and Germany before and during WW II, commiting treason on such a scale that it was stopped only when the U.S. government seized the assets of Bush-connected companies in late 1942 under the "Trading with the Enemy Act -- see "The Bushes and Hitler's Appeasement"http://www.consortiumnews.com/2008/051808.html).

- President Bush's own father oversaw Oliver North during the Iran/Contra lawbreaking period when North worked with Cuban terrorist masterminds working with the CIA who blew up a civilian airliner in 1976 -- when Bush Sr. was head of the CIA -- and who have been protected from accountability
for their terrorism by Bush Sr. and and now W. Bush ever since -- see "Bush's Endless Hypocrisy on Terror"
http://www.consortiumnews.com/2008/052008.html).

- President Bush's own administration is right now negotiating with the Libyan Qadaffi regime that blew up yet another civilian airliner, over Lockerbie, Scotland.

- And, as President Bush cynically knows, the 9/11 Commission Report is a Huge Official Lie, because his Administration not only ensured the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks would happen, but happen spectacularly -- spectacularly enough, like Pearl Harbor, to guarantee public backing for his hideous Middle East and domestic executive-power-concentration agenda.
Look in the Mirror, Mr. Bush. You have seen the Real Terrorists, and They are You -- You and Your Entire Bush Treason Family.

I live in the South American Country of Guyana Where democracy has been hijacked by a communist leaning government who has engaged in torture and extra judicial killings of hundreds of my fellow Guyanese and are being courted heavily by Venezuelan influence who will invade Guyana territory if the world balance of power continues to shift while the American embassy in Georgetown sits quietly by and rob the hundreds of Guyanese trying to flee these shores of 131 USD each by offering bogus visa interviews with a 90% rejection rate Why should we believe anything America supports when these ironies exists sometimes i get the feeling they are just waiting for the situation to get worse and and enemies of democracy and freedom further entrench themselves here, using the silence of the americans on their atrocities here as legitimacy while they manipulate everything in puruit of their communist style of governance from party elections, the judiciary, etc

Dear Jack,
It is just amazing to me that Mccain would choose someone to run along side of him with about enough experience to fill a thimble. the republicans are touting her as the best thing since green apples. Her resume consists of a soccer mom, on the pta, mayor of a dinky town, and the governor for 20 months. WOW what a resume. This is disgusting what with all the problems in this country. With Mccain's temperament, his shooting from the hip is really scary. If he were to get us into another conflict and for some reason he couldn't govern, we would have a soccer mom running the country. I guess what they are saying all soccer mom's or pta members are eligible to be vp or even president. What many people are saying, is that the vp isn't that important. What they are forgetting is the age of Mccain which makes the second choice more important than ever. I wish some of these points could be brought out on air more often rather, than giving him a free ride.
thank you

As long as we're talking about bail-outs, how about bailing out our schools, police, and fire services? I get choked up thinking about the needs of our teachers, fire, and police. I just choke when I think about the greedy, smug, arrogant %^#$@!! that created the mess in the markets. So, let's broaden the discussion to encompass something that people on main street are prepared to accept as a sacrifice.

I would really like the appropriate Federal Agency to look into Henry Paulson's dealings while he was with Goldman. They will get a piece of the AIG bailout. Lehman, however, was left to swing in the wind. (Not that they shouldn't.) It is just too coincidental. I wonder if he sent or received any of those infamous e-mails concerning "being retired and rich when this house of cards falls?"

Dear Jack,

I know that this isn't exactly on point for today's topic, but it could provide immeasurable moral support for our men and women of the armed services. I received an e-mail this morning from a friend, Cyndi Dawson, pertaining to the sending of any extra holiday cards to our military personnel, who may otherwise be forgotten during the upcoming season of hope.
The address to send the cards is:

A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reid Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue NW
Washinton D.C.

Thank you so very much for your time, and your help. This is my favorite show on CNN.

It was a little disheartening, no a LOT , to hear a member of America's free press loosely quote in regards to the protests made at the G20 summit meetings, "If you have the time to spend all day walking around with a picket or sign around your neck, you're not staying very busy"

That's about as anti-democratic a comment as I have ever heard on a major television news channel.

Tom Preston said...

Jack, my wife is currently reading Three Cups of Tea, written by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. It is a book about Mortenson and his pleldge to build a school in Pakistan.
There are two quotes worthy of mention:
"Here(in Pakistan and Afganistan), we drink three cups of tea to do business, the first you are a stranger, the second you become a friend, and the third you join our family, and for out family we are prepared to do anything--even die".
Haji Ali, Korphe Village Chief, Karakoram MOuntains, Pakistan
Comment: Perhaps our diplomats and military should look within those that they deal with closer, you always get more with honey than with vinegar.
The second quote comes from Brigadier General Bashie Baz(Pg 310 of the book)
Your President Bush has done a wonderful job of uniting one billion Muslins against America for the next two hundred years.
Osama is not a product of Pakistan or Afghanistan. He is a creation of America. Thanks to America, Osama is in every home. As a military man I know you can never fight and win against someone who can shoot at you once and then run off and hide while you have to remain eternally on guard. You have to attack the source of your enemy's strength. In America's case, that is not Osama or Saddam or anyone else. The enemy is ignorance. The only way to defeat it is to build relationships with these people, to draw them into the modern world with education and business. Otherwise the fight will go on forever.

The first quote references how they deal with each other, perhaps we could learn from that insight and try it.
The second quote hits the nail right on the head. We have made more of this entire thing. Yes, 9/11 was not pretty, but it did not declare war on America. Our president choose to go to a war with a country without substantive reasons. We have gone into Afganistan, who knows why, is it the opium trade? Didn't we learn a thing from the Viet Nam war? The French were defeated there, by guerilla tactics, so were we. Iraq is a civil war and we just got in the middle of it, as did our heavy casualities. Will we ever learn?
I think there should be specific criteria established by/for the executive branch that all the criteria would have to be present before we commit to bullets.
Our current economic problems are many. We have a tremendous debt. Do we all realize that specific debt is only a portion of the debt. The war effort is being kept off the books/budget, and we know the additional billions it has been racking up over the past seven years.

On the referendum will be OBama's JOB Bill proposal and the Republican Job Bill Proposal
Let WE THE PEOPLE vote on the two bills
Let CNN run the Democratic National Referendum and Fox News run the Republican National Referrendum
The referendums could list the majorparts and people could vote for or against the parts they like or dislike.
We can call it the American Spring or Fall - Let the People Speak
